How I spend my work free days.

Warm greetings everyone!

Work is a means by which one gets income for sustainance and while it is good to work, some days my body just seems lethargic. It doesn't respond to the ringing of the alarm nor does it respond to my will, all it wants is to stay cooped up in bed under the duvet.

I guess I'm not the only who feels this way occasionally and that's why I think ***off days *** were established. Depending on the organization, off days could be one or two days in a week or one week in a month or maybe more. Whichever it is, off days are certainly days I look forward to as that's because there are always fun activities lined up, just waiting for me to be available.

As an educator, here in Nigeria, off days occur quarterly and it lasts for five days. I cannot begin to describe how excited I become when it's getting close to that time. Firstly, my alarm will go on holiday too as I would not be needing it's pesky rings throughout that period (I'm sure it would jump for joy). I'm going to be sharing some of the stuff I do to enjoy my off days.

Sleep in

Yep, I don't wake up early on my off days at all. If I do, then it's probably to visit the rest room and once I'm done doing my business, I activate part 2 and continue my sleep. While I wake up on work days by 5am, so that I can prepare and be in school by 7am, it's a different ball game during off days, as I get to wake by 9 am or even 10am (don't blame, blame the mattress).

Devour food

This is another activity that makes me enjoy off days. I get to cook and eat as I want without haste or fear of running late for work. Also sometimes due to the work stress, I don't remember to eat properly which affects me later but during off days, i get to eat to my heart's content.

Nature walks

During off days, I get the time and chance to explore nature. I reside in a remote part of a bustling city and that affords me the opportunity to enjoy nature and all its glory. I usually visit thr zoo not too far from my residence or I go to the beach and just sit down and watch the waves cascade in their tumultuous wonder. It's refreshes and soothes my soul immensely.

Hangout with friends

Off days also affords me time to hangout with my friends and catch up on how everyone is fairing. Sometimes these hangouts are planned as a picnic and we all come together to dine and wine and just share gist and laughter. It's really an amazing time that I look forward to every quarter.

More me time

When I'm not going to work, I tend to focus on me, leaving work related matters at work. I hope I don't sound selfish but this is what I have come to realize that work is a never ending cycle. When you think you are done with one task, boom! another one lands. Recently I have started being actively conscious of self care. I do all I can to keep myself in tip top shape with a healthy frame of mind and body before I resume work. I do this by doing any one of the things listed below.

  • Reading interesting novels.

  • Watching movies.

  • Practicing yoga and meditation

  • Spend more fun time with my daughter by playing fun games like Ludo, Scrabble or chess (which makes her extremely happy).

  • Go shopping or

  • Take myself out on a personal date.

These are the things I engage in that makes my off days enjoyable, there is no dull moment neither do I ever feel bored on off days.
