The newbies initiative program on hive has dropped the task for week three. As usual, we were given some tutorial materials to study on keys before we had the usual meeting on Sunday night.
The meeting was a very educative one. @depressedfuckup explained the uses of all the hive keys and ways to keep them from theft. The meeting was indeed educating because it exposed us to little errors that can make us lose our hive account forever, and ways to prevent and secure our keys.

Now to the week's task, the first question 1. If your partner for the week from Newbies-hive mistakenly dropped their active key in a Discord channel, highlight the various steps you'll indulge in to keep such account assets safe from potential theft

If I found out that my partner @harvodey has mistakingly drop her active key in the discord channel;

  • The first thing I would do is to notify her and ask her to delete it immediately. We would not assume that because it has been deleted there is no cause for alarm.

  • I would ask her to transfer all the liquid assets like HBD and Hive to a trusted account, after doing that, go ahead and change the keys. So, when the keys have been changed successfully and she has new set of keys, she can then return her assets back to the account.

  • To change your keys, go to your wall in PEAKD, click on the three dots under your dp beside settings.

Then click on keys and permission in the menu bar, it will bring you here.

Then click on Chang password
After that it will bring you to another page where you will fill in all that is required to change your keys.

#Note that the owner key is required to perform this activity.

2. What advice would you give to your friend, in regard to safekeeping his/her keys?

The advice I would give my friend in regard to safe keeping her keys is firstly, to use keychain. Keychain helps secure your keys in the app and only you can have access to it when you need it because the app is locked with a password and fingerprints.
Another way to secure your keys is to write it out without indicating what it is in full. And put it amidst your documents.
You can also save it in your mail but with a little trick like changing a letter or two, at the beginning or end.

Also, I would advice her never to click on links in discord or on Hive talking about give away because nothing is free.

3. Assuming your partner does not understand the use of each of these keys, how do you explain this to him/her in the simplest way?

After opening your account on hive, The five different keys that were given to you are, your Active key, posting key, memo key, owner key, and master key.

  • The active key is for financial transactions. It's required when you want to perform financial transactions in your account like powering up or down, transfers.

  • The posting key is for posting. It's required when you make post, make comments, reblog, mute account, up vote, and follow account.
The memo key is used to send encrypted messages. It is also required to read an encrypted message.

  • The owners key is used to generate new keys. When you think someone else may have your keys, you use the owner key to generate new ones and keep your account safe.

  • The master key is used to recover missing current keys. When you can't remember where your keys are, you use the master key to recover them.

This is my response to the newbies initiative task 3.
Thanks for stopping by.
It's yours truly @aunty-tosin 💕💕
