On Your Mark, Get Set, Go! - A Race to Celebrate the 78th Anniversary at a Local School

The little school down the road from us celebrated their 78th anniversary this last week. We have a friend who teaches English classes at the school, so he invited us to come see the festivities, which included a race.

It was to start at 7:00 in the morning and we got there pretty much on time. There were a lot of people standing around and even some kids that were warming up by doing jumping jacks.

We always stand out in a crowd due to our family size and our blonde hair! The kids attended this school for a year five years ago, so they are familiar with the area.

The event was a 700 meter race with the kids racing against others their age. Parents could also participate.

We stayed for about 4-5 of the races with the younger kids. We even recognized a few of them from our church. In one group, the girls started after the boys and the little girl we knew from church came in first among the girls and even beat a lot of the boys! She sure was fast!

It looked like after the races they would go back to the school for a little presentation, but we didn't stick around for that. The had a few fireworks before the start of the races.

Many of the teachers that my children had were also there and talked to them. They were surprised to see how much the kids had grown over the last five years!

Panamanians sure like to celebrate and have a reason to party! 78 years as a school is a good reason!
