Fresh Milk from Our Cow - Milk, Yogurt, Butter

After my son

, we bring in the milk to filter it. Then the milk will either be drunk, turned into yogurt, or the cream turned into butter.

The milker by itself weighs quite a bit. It's no simple task for him to carry a full milk jug into the house, along with the tubes so that it doesn't spill everywhere while he carries it in! I'm glad to have a strong boy!

We got this fancy filter bowl that we use to filter the milk with. Since we have a machine, it sucks any small gnats or bugs into the milk and this little filter catches all of them.

We love our milk because it doesn't smell cow-y. It has a good amount of cream on the top after it sits in the fridge for a while. We try to filter and put it in the fridge as soon as possible.

Every few days I take the cream I've pulled off the top of the milk and turn it into butter. I use my food processor to do it and it takes about 20 minutes. This butter was pretty yellow - it must have been right after she gave birth (it was in the freezer). The color can also depend on what she's eaten that day - the quality of the grass.

We're always happy to have fresh milk, butter, and yogurt from the milk!
