Engelberg Benedictine monastery,also known as Abbey, built around 1120, still has around 30 monks in the monastery today. the monks continue their traditional practices of prayer, work and study.It was initially established as a center for education and religious life. The monastery have an baroque architecture. The church was rebuilt in the 18 th century after a devastating fire.
The abbey and its sourroundings offer a quiet retreat for piligrims, tourists and locals.
