Welcome to my blog. Today is my first post in this community. Today I will share with you an interesting thing and that is how our food system is related to climate change. Which I came to know in a lecture by my class teacher in the last Food Security and Food System class. I was very worried to know the whole thing.
The issue of climate change is not unknown to anyone, whose negative effects we have already started suffering. Climate change does not only harm the ecosystem, it changes the lifestyle of people. Currently, due to deforestation, industrialization, and the use of fossil fuels, the temperature is increasing all over the world, which is basically known as 'global warming'. Due to global warming, the ice in the polar regions is melting. Due to this, various species of fish and animals there are now facing extinction. At the same time, the sea level has also increased much more than before. Due to which cyclones and tornadoes almost hit the coastal areas. Again, in some places, drought and drought occur. Due to this, the crop lands become barren.
Currently, the environment cannot explain itself, when it will rain and when it will not. But people will not listen to the mind of the environment and nature. People have hunger in their hearts along with hunger in their stomachs. To meet the needs of a large population, farmers have to work and grow crops in the land. Therefore, they are forced to use various pesticides and herbicides in their lands. These are really very expensive for them. At the same time, pesticides are destroying all the beneficial insects in the barren land and giving birth to weeds. Due to which the yield is decreasing a lot.
The negative effects of this complete climate change are reducing our food supply and food availability. Due to food being unavailable, the supply of food in the market is decreasing. The price of food is skyrocketing. Working people are not able to eat nutritious food, they are turning to cheap food, which is affecting their overall nutrition requirement. They are suffering from various diseases due to lack of various nutrients such as protein, vitamins, minerals. Once it was seen that many people used to die due to various infectious diseases, but now the number of various deficiency diseases has increased. In this way, climate change is directly or indirectly affecting food availability and human health and the economy of a country.
Therefore, we should all reduce the human-made causes of climate change. For this, collective efforts such as not cutting down excess trees, reducing the use of fossil fuels, increasing the use of renewable energy, reducing the use of plastic, reducing the human-made causes of air pollution, water pollution are needed. Organic food should be cultivated without using excessive pesticides where pesticides are used very less. Because with the collective efforts of all of us, we can save the world from destruction. For this, everyone's awareness and love for nature are very much needed. I am ending here today. See you in the next post, until then, everyone be well.
